So You Think You’re Funny? – Episode 7 – Luke from Hux Life

So this interview feature thingy has already had more episodes than the first season of Scandal and the first season of Fawlty Towers! One can only surmise that people will be talking about those two series for rather longer than this one, but stranger things have happened. One thing is for sure though – neither of those two series had such an awesome introductory paragraph every week.

Let’s move on to the important part – this week’s interviewee – and it’s another dad! This time it’s the very entertaining Luke from Hux Life, who has been blogging since September 2016 about the joys of parenting. Luke managed to get the words ‘fanny canal’ and ‘wanky mum friends’ into one of his earliest posts so it’s worth checking out his blog even just for that! On with the questions…

1. Tell us about yourself in 20 words or less:

Caring, witty and a perfectionist with a very loud and mostly inappropriate, infectious laugh.

2. Now do the same as if through the eyes of your worst enemy:

A gobshite who is always the centre of attention, hates losing and can be spiteful.

3. When and why did your child(ren) last make you laugh?

Only a couple of day ago to be fair. My little boy is now 9 months old so his facial expressions and character are now bursting through. The way he will look at something with the utmost disgust combined with a frown has had me in stitches. “Take it you don’t like that, Huxley”

4. Do you try to be funny when you are writing? Tell us a bit about your blogging ‘process’.

Honestly, I find it quite hard to be outright funny on my blog but if readers are able to take something funny from a post then brilliant. I think I have quite a dark sense of humour and it’s not necessarily the best for all out humour. My blogging process starts with one idea and then I write to see if I can turn it into a respectable blog post. I must write twice as many blogs as I post but many are not deemed safe for the internet. Corrr, that make me sound
like a right weirdo. I’m not. I swear.

5. What do you think is the funniest thing you’ve ever written?

My blog on the birth of Huxley was the funniest thing I’ve written. The occurrences that happened that fateful day could have been scripted, it was that comical. Almost the reason I started blogging as this story could not go untold.

6. What or who do you rate as the funniest…

TV Show?
Orange is the New Black (Guilty pleasure)
Comedian?
Micky Flanagan. I nearly lost a lung laughing at his latest stand-up show.
Writer/blogger?
Dave at The DADventurer (thedadventurer.com) Basically my blogging idol.

7. Do your friends/family find you funny in ‘real life’?

I don’t think they would admit it but yeah, I got the one liners and put downs to keep em ROFL’ing. But equally, they crack me up every time I see them so I must have got the funny bones from somewhere.

8. Go on, tell us a joke.

What did the fish say when it swam into a wall? Dam.

9. What’s your tipple?

Give me a Rum & Cola any time of the day – As good as angels peeing on your lips (I’ve been told).

10. If you could only have one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Bloody steak, chips and a velvety blue cheese sauce. Plus the benefit associated with steak on the 14th March…

11. Complete the sentence; ‘Before I had a child…’

…I spent the majority of time in unorganised chaos looking for the next party.

12. In your opinion, what is the worst children’s TV show, and why?

Pip Ahoy! I’m convinced this shit was created using Microsoft Paint. Where they found these retina burning shades is beyond me. For first thing in the morning it’s absolutely atrocious.

13. Please tell us about your blog and why we should visit:

I’m probably deemed a newbie in the blogging world with my first post only going live in October 2016. As well as this new beginning I also became a Papa for the first time in April. My life has completely switched from party mode to sofa & slippers/’does this poo look normal?’ Acting partly as a diary I am documenting my hell life with a new baby as well as expressing some opinions that probably shouldn’t get aired aloud. Now if that is not reason to take a gander, I don’t know what is.

You can find Luke at his honest, funny blog Hux Life, and also on Twitter and Instagram, so now you’ve finished reading this why don’t you pop along and give him a follow / like / share?

We’ll be back this time next week with another thrilling installment of ‘So You Think You’re Funny?’ Be there or be somewhere else. Your choice. I won’t hold it against you.
