Offroad Driving For Beginners

If you’re worried about jumping right into this hobby, don’t be. You don’t have to splash out on your own souped-up offroad vehicle or go through hours of intensive driving training to be able to experience the thrill of offroad driving.

Many offroaders start with what’s known as an offroad experience event. Simply put, you can take part in an offroad adventure safely and affordably, and blaze the muddy, exciting trail yourself.

Depending on the package, an offroad experience event can involve a simple hour-long trek in the passenger seat of a tried and tested offroad vehicle, or last for up to a whole day or weekend. These packages often involve a varied program, take you to exciting places, and have an instructional element to them, teaching you the basics of offroad driving. This way, you can get even behind the wheel of your adventure, with some expert guidance, of course.

While it’s a great idea to try out one of these events yourself, a true offroad experience can make a wonderful gift for any driving enthusiast.

Offroading Safely

There is always an inherent danger with driving, even your normal daily commute carries the potential risk of a collision. So, it stands to reason that offroad driving would be even more dangerous, right?

Well, as with any adventure, the proper precautions can make offroading much safer. Even an experienced driver will do well to bear these safety tips in mind so that they can have fun without unnecessary risk.

First of all, never go offroading alone. Even if you do everything right, it’s always far better to have someone with you to help out. If you’ve embarked on an offroad experience event, then the instructor will always be there for you. Often, they’ll be the ones in control of the vehicle.

If you’re more experienced and have your own offroad vehicle, ensure that it is absolutely up to spec. Proper offroad wheels are a must, and the better ones can perform well both off and on the road. Shock absorbers are another component that you should invest in, along with other features to provide as safe and comfortable a journey as possible. Inside your vehicle, you should be supplied with a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, and a puncture repair kit, along with bottled water to keep you hydrated.

Of course, you need to be a safe driver. While it might be tempting to speed up, driving safely and carefully is at least as important off road as it is normally. The terrain is surprisingly treacherous and even a kitted-out car can struggle. Take the time to learn the driving techniques that will allow you to drive off the road safely, as it is wildly different from normal driving.
